Dual Enrollment Eligibility

1. The student must be entering grades 9-12 at an Eligible High School which is any private or public secondary educational institution within the State of Georgia or any Georgia approved Home Study program.

2. Student must be admitted and classified as a MOWR student by an Eligible Postsecondary Institution after the local high school has determined they are eligible.

​

3. A student must not have already received a high school diploma, a General Education Development (GED) diploma or completed a Home Study program to be eligible.

 

4. Regardless of the number of semesters or quarters of participation a student is ineligible for MOWR payment once he or she has fulfilled all high school graduation requirements.

 

5. The counselor, student and student’s parent or guardian must sign a MOWR Student Participation Form and have a required advisement session acknowledging the complete understanding of the responsibilities assumed by the student while participating in the MOWR program.

 

6. Participation is available for students in grades 9-12, but can be as little as one semester since MOWR is a semester-by semester program.

 

7. A student must complete a MOWR Program On-line Application and submit it to his or her high school counselor prior to each school term of their participation.

 

8. A student must abide by the rules of the Eligible High School and the Eligible Postsecondary Institution the student is attending because a student can be denied participation at any time in the MOWR program for violations of such rules.

 

9. Colleges will waive all tuition, mandatory and non-course related fees and provide all books.

 

10. The student and/or parents/guardians are responsible for non-covered expenses, such as food and transportation costs or others identified by MOWR and college guidelines.

 

11. Students seeking to enroll in the MOWR program will be expected to complete all local and state graduation course requirements as determined by the MOWR program.

 

12. Students can be enrolled full-time or part-time up to 15 total semester hours/12 quarter hours per institution.

 

13. Additional course hours and costs above the hour maximum per institution are not covered through MOWR funding.

 

14. A student can attend two different institutions during the same semester with a total time of 15 semester/12 quarter hours per institution.

 

15. MOWR courses do not count against any maximum hourly caps for the HOPE scholarships or grants.

16. Students are allowed to participate in high school competitive and other extracurricular events if possible. Conflicts with class time, requirements and scheduling could, however, prevent the student from participating.

 

17. Student is ineligible to receive MOWR payment for coursework that was already completed, exempted or given credit by examination, testing, training, or experience.

 

18. All approved MOWR courses must be approved college courses taken through an eligible postsecondary institution and/or through postsecondary on-line courses.

 

19. GADOE virtual courses cannot be used as MOWR courses.

 

20. Students are expected to maintain contact with their counselor during the semester and must acquire the counselor’s approval before dropping classes, withdrawing from classes, changing classes, or discontinuing MOWR program participation.

 

21. Student must notify their high school counselor if his /her full-time status changes at any time prior to or after the drop/add date of the Eligible Postsecondary Institution or the end of the semester of participation.

 

22. Students’ high school graduation date and loss of credit could occur by course withdrawal or failure.

 

23. Documentation of a failing grade must be placed on the high school transcript if the student drops or withdraws from a MOWR course and their high school counselor determines they cannot provide an alternative option to complete course the during the semester.

 

24. The MOWR Program is available to students for all three college terms for semester schedules, or all four quarters for quarter schedules.

 

25. MOWR students are not allowed to transfer to another USG or TCSG institution during a semester/quarter without approval from the high school counselor and postsecondary institutions.

 

26. The Eligible Postsecondary Institution will notify the Eligible High School or Home Study program of each student’s enrollment and grade(s) earned in the coursework.

 

27. The student is responsible for requesting the postsecondary institution to notify the student’s high school regarding their grade for any MOWR course.

 

28. All MOWR postsecondary coursework credit toward a Degree or a Technical Diploma or Certificate, which has been approved by the GADOE and the Eligible Postsecondary Institution, is eligible for MOWR payment.

 

29. Students must meet all dual requirements of the MOWR program, local system, GADOE, and the postsecondary institution.

 

30. Student will ensure communication is continued during the semester with their high school counselor.

 

31. Student must contact high school counselor during the semester in time to complete and meet the MOWR application college deadline for the following semester if the student plans on continuing to participate in MOWR.
