Scholarship Opportunities for Juniors:

Walton has the opportunity to nominate students for the scholarships described below. These are each unique opportunities to be a part of a distinguished cohort of students on campus as well as receive an exceptional financial scholarship.

Students (juniors only) interested in being nominated for either scholarship must submit a 200-250 word personal statement on why they exemplify the criteria for that scholarship and provide a resume (or list) of extracurricular activities.  This should be prepared as a written document and submitted to Mrs. Gross in the College Corner by the end of day, Friday, May 17th.  Please include your name and email address, and indicate the scholarship for which you want to be considered.

Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill:

The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is a four-year fully funded educational experience for students of the highest caliber. The program offers opportunities for summer enrichment, Discovery Fund experiences, and the opportunity to be part of a distinguished community of Morehead-Cains living around the world.

What are they looking for?

  • Leadership – Morehead-Cains influence, energize, and inspire others to work together to make an impact. It’s more than titles held or roles played. For scholars, leadership is about courage and action. They initiate. They get things done.

  • Moral Force of Character – Compassion, courage, humility, self-awareness, and a sense of purpose – these are the core values of the Morehead-Cain community.  Morehead-Cains embrace the fact that they are growing and learning, and are energized by the journey.

  • Scholarship – Morehead-Cain Scholars live for opportunities to learn.  They thrive in an academically rigorous environment, yet are able to contribute to their communities in other ways. They are ready to take full advantage of UNC’s academic excellence.

  • Physical Vigor – Morehead-Cains demonstrate a sustained commitment to fitness and wellness. They value what is gained – collaboration, sportsmanship, discipline, stamina, and persistence – by preparing for and engaging in competitions and performances. [Due consideration is given to those with physical limitations.]
